Chairman

Thero Setiloane
FAE, BSc Eng (Mech), Dip Eng Management
Thero Setiloane was appointed a director of Rand Refinery in May 2003, becoming chairman at the end of January 2005. As AngloGold Ashanti’s Executive Officer: Marketing, he is responsible for the promotion of gold globally and for the company’s international downstream activities and beneficiation. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the World Gold Council, a member of the Advisory Board for Nestlé Africa, a director of Swiss Re Africa and a trustee of the Ernest Oppenheimer Memorial Trust.

 


Vice-chairman

Nicholas (Nick) Holland
BComm, BAcc, CA (SA)
Nick Holland was appointed to the board of Rand Refinery in July 2000. The Chief Financial Officer of Gold Fields, he has 26 years’ experience in financial management. Prior to joining Gold Fields he was financial director and senior manager of corporate finance at Gencor Limited. He is also a director of Teba Bank.  

 


Dawn Earp

BCom, BAcc, CA (SA)
Dawn Earp was appointed a director of Rand Refinery in May 2002 and she is the chairperson of the board’s audit and remuneration committee. She is Executive Officer: Finance at AngloGold Ashanti which she joined in mid-2000. Prior to taking up her current position, Dawn was Vice President: Financial Accounting at Anglo American, a company she was with from mid-1989. She is chairman of the Chamber of Mines Accounting Committee and represents the chamber on the accounting practices board of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).

 


Phil Mostert

BSc
Phil Mostert worked for Anglo American Corporation (AAC) in Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa for 38 years in various positions including those of Metallurgical Superintendent and Chief Consulting Metallurgist. His last position with AAC was at Ergo where he was manager of the operation for eight years. He retired from active employment in 1994 but was appointed to the board of Rand Refinery on 1 July 1994 where he served as Managing Director until July 1999. He remains a non-executive director of Rand Refinery.

 

Daniel (Niel) Pretorius

BProc, LLB
Niel Pretorius was appointed to the board of Rand Refinery in January 2005. He holds a BProc LLB degree and has 13 years of experience in the mining industry.  He was appointed Group Legal Counsel for DRDGOLD in February 2003 and as Chief Executive Officer of DRDGOLD SA in July 2006.
 

Mark Lynam
BE (Mech) University College Dublin, AMP Insead
Mark was educated in Ireland before moving to South Africa in 1983 following the completion of his degree in mechanical engineering. He joined Western Deep Levels Gold Mine as an engineer before moving to Anglo American head office as a management trainee in 1988. In 1991 he joined the marketing department of the Gold and Uranium Division of Anglo American, helping establish and grow the treasury activities of the division in addition to filling the role of deputy treasurer of Anglo American for a period.
In 1998, he became treasurer of AngloGold Limited (now AngloGold Ashanti Limited) following the formation and listing of that company. He now holds the position of Executive Officer Treasury, overseeing the group’s global treasury operations. He is a member of the board of several subsidiary and associate group companies and is a member of the board of the Association of Corporate Treasurers of South Africa.

Steve Flatman

Steve graduated from the Royal School of Mines London University in 1981 with a BSc Honours degree in Minerals technology and joined the Anglo American Gold and Uranium division where he completed his graduate training at the Vaal reefs Gold Mine near Orkney South Africa. He worked for AngloGold Ashanti – in a variety of metallurgical positions at the ERGO operation and mostly recently as plant manager at Vaal Reefs operations – for 25 years before joining Rand Refinery in February 2006. 

Steve is both a registered Chartered Engineer(C Eng) in the UK and Professional Engineer in South Africa and a member of the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. He is also a member of the Mine Metallurgical Managers association of Southern Africa where he has served on council, as district representative and as President.

 
Financial Director
Geoff Millet

BComm, CA (SA)
Geoff hails from Zambia and gained a BCom, CA (SA) from the University of Natal (Pietermaritzburg). Following a period working in the United Kingdom he spent 23 years in senior positions with a major packaging company before joining Rand Refinery Limited as Financial Director in 2000. He is engaged in various social initiatives in the community and with professional work groups.

Pieter Henning
BCom (Hons), CA (SA)
Pieter Henning completed his articles at KPMG Inc. and left in 2005 as audit manager. In January 2007 he was appointed Chief Financial Officer and an executive director of Western Areas Ltd, a company he joined in May 2005 as financial manager, with the added responsibility of performing the financial management function for JCI Limited and Randgold and Exploration Company Limited. From the end of 2005 he turned his focus purely on Western Areas and its investment in South Deep Gold Mine. He was formerly a Non-Executive member of the Board of Rand Refinery but currently serves as an alternate director.
