Rand Refinery operates a highly secure, yet low profile transit vault at OR Tambo International Airport with direct access to the vault from venues worldwide, as well as direct road and air access from the refinery's Germiston facility.

The brainchild of the South African producers of precious metals and stones, this initiative was implemented and is operated by Rand Refinery to ensure maximum security in the importing and exporting of valuable products to and from international markets.

In addition to the trans-shipment function offered by the facility, it offers a one-stop service. Thus, Rand Refinery has become an IATA member with the aim of facilitating freight forwarding and clearing of all precious metals and stones.

This high tech, high security facility for the shipment of South African precious metals, jewellery and precious stones is located on airside of OR Tambo international Airport and provides:

• an accredited security company to assist in the escorting of the products on the airside
• 24 hour rapid response by the Airports Company of South Africa as well as the South African Police Service
• materials handling
• freight forwarding and clearing
• a secure helicopter landing facility
